Vanji, I, Števa

Vanji and Števa came almost at the same time, so we had some old chat, reminiscing of the old days and just blabbering like any three old pals. Števa looks a lot older, though, but quite good otherwise, having come from rehab for his drinking.

In the afternoon, we all finally went to our house to see how it looks. Well, dirty, dusty, cobwebs everywhere, the frame of Go's bike still in the living room, footprints of whichever majstor's have stepped in their paint and/or thinner, the lawn mower in the lobby, plastic bottles everywhere, mostly empty. The frame of Go's old bicycle was inside, near the terrace door. It was stolen in autumn of 1998, and just a few weeks before we left, one of the four cops in the next street (they bought the lots together and built there) invited us to take it - they recovered what was left of it. Just the frame with one pedal - the other being cut off with a grinder. Quite pointless, though, that made it irrepairable by amateur means, and also impossible to sell or to shuffle parts with other frames. The kid who stole it was indeed an amateur, a gypsy orphan, who'd move from relatives to relatives when they'd have him, which was mostly not an option. So he lived on petty theft, but wasn't experienced enough to do even that right.

We started by taking everything out of Go and Nina's room (from now on, Lena's) and piling it on the terrace. It being covered now, and it being summer, nothing's going to happen to all those pictures, copy books etc.

The attic hole was still covered with those asbest-sheetrock plates, except where the ladder is, where we left the little camping table upturned. To get into the attic, you just lift it until it lays on its side. Best one can do without adding hinges. Same as we left it.

By 19:00 we were back at my parents'. Dad has fired up his new mini-still (only 25l in the kettle) and started on apple-apricot mix that has fermented to that point where it had to be distilled right away or it will be getting sour.

Plugged my nezavisni into his ADSL modem/router and got online on UA. Changed my country there, but it will take a few days for regulars there to notice, and then the questions started still a few days after that.

Also reported on ppp... to everyone's astonishment there. I did announce that I'll be moving, but it won't be clear for two more days where exactly we moved.
