By analogy with štemajzl (the chisel for walls, used by electricians, plumbers etc), picajzl(a) (bug found in the bush around the genitals) and other similar words. [The word] originates from what oma would say „vek šmajze“ (probably weg schmeise), to discard, throw away. There are two kinds, actually, there's a small, screwdriver sized prybar for small nails.
The main kind is a strong chisel, or rather a spatula but made out of such tough steel that it can be used as a chisel. The first one, from 2004, was hit with a hammer so many times on the dull end, that the plastic handle fell apart soon, and the metal widened on impact. The lack of handle increased its usability, as now it could be inserted anywhere.
I used it in various ways. To take out old tiles, cut plasterboards and cement boards, scrape old glue off the walls, plane planks, and yes, as a chisel. The last thing, with the, I guess, fourth exemplar, was to scrub the soot off the walls after the fire. The third one was permanently assigned to be in Čankovo, where it still probably is, but not in our house, got stolen by the neighbor to sell for a beer. That one had a rubber reinforced butt, specifically designed to endure the hammer.
