A vladika (ranks as a bishop in Orthodox church) comes to a village, does a sermon with the local priest, and after the official part, sits with him in the church.

Vladika: Father, you know that the tradition demands that the bells should toll when a vladika enters the village. Not for my own sake, nor for yours, but for the sake of the Church. I wonder what possible reason might you have for not doing so?

Priest: Your excellency, we do have seven strong and highly valid reasons for that. First of all, we don't have a bell.

Now why is this a programming joke?
Your routine doesn't work, and there may be seven valid reasons for that. You'll solve the first and most obvious one, but that doesn't make the other six go away.
