student

15-VII-2004 - 25-III-2024

To differ from english, where anyone enrolled anywhere in formal education is a student, not so here.

A student is one in academia only. See school system.

There's one special category, „večiti student“ - a forever student. The system being such that one completes a year when one can, the sttudying may be extended - one may repeat or pause a year until all the exams are done, or at least a sufficient number of them (so-called „condition“, as in „one may enlist in the next year under the condition that no more than two of the specific exams are left for later“), which then means that you can have an apsolvent (absolvent, i.e. one who finished attending classes but hasn't graduated yet) with exams from the last year or two still unpassed. In some cases, these may extend to many years. Actually, there was a time when the average time between enrolment and graduation in a four (or five) year course was about seven years (mathematics, physics, machine and electrical engineering). If that was the average, and assuming that a few did graduate on time, the outliers on the other end must have taken nine years or more.
