Contrary to what it means in the west, whistling during a performance is equal to booing, and is actually a bit stronger. To be "whistled out" means to have to leave the stage because of a very negative attitude by the audience.

That is if the whistles are long. If it's a short, three tone melody (second tone lower, third higher than the first), it's an equivalent of ooh-la-la.
