Few random thoughts on a sticky note, before I cast it to recycle box:

Stockholm syndrome may as well be a lie. It is quite possible that the hostages listen to reason, to see their takers as desparate people having no other way out of a great injustice. Then those who caused the injustice add salt to the wound by calling it "a syndrome", as if whoever agrees with these guys must be insane. Also works as a defence against any such attempts in the future - if you ever get to be a hostage, you can sympathise with your kidnapper all you like, you won't be taken seriously. (I expanded this one into a fullblown article on Škrba's blog few years later)
"marriage was not consumed" - so what, the spouses are just consumers? Hmmmm... new connotation to the whole set of related words.
