We went to Čankovo to tend to the garden, maybe destill our first brandy and see if Zeki has found the plumber to put the new water pumping hardware together. The plumber did come in the afternoon. Turns out he was a student of mine, back in the 80s. He did put the plumbing together, but we couldn't start the pump because of an electrical problem - either the main switch or the safety switch was fried by the old pump.

Around 18:30 dad tried to call me, but my phone's battery was empty. He then called Lena in Belgrade, and she gave him mom's number. By the time he reached her, I was already in the car, waiting for her to release the dog from the rear toilet (where we had to keep him because he would bite me). She said I should hurry up, dad said I should take mom to the urgent center. Had to wait for a herd of a dozen cows crossing the bridge, and didn't dare step on the pedal afterwards - drove strictly to the limit - as I wouldn't be much use if we ended in the ditch. We wondered why didn't he call an ambulance. But then, if he didn't, it's probably something that can wait for a few minutes.

Turns our we would have been late even if I drove twice the speed.

By the time we actually saw her, the women from the neighborhood have started dressing her - a wet hadkerchief over the mouth to close it, jaw tied for the same reason, closed her eyes. I only had to find scissors to cut a pair of pantyhose into just stockings. Her legs were swollen for weeks already.

Drove dad to the city funeral enterprise, where we picked a coffin, a cross, the towels etc. Turns out the social security pays for the cost up to a point, which we exceeded by mere 25€. By the time we came back, the neighbors have gathered. The guys with the coffin came even before we did, and put her in the dark room, which used to be grandma's room, then mine, then ours, then grandma's again. The walpaper we put in 1979 was long gone, but the carpet was still there.

We stayed with dad until last of the neighbors left, about 2:00.
