Magi's mom called, not that she's not feeling well, but just scared at what her blood pressure gauge says - 220 by 160 or so. So we brought ours (was dad's, we don't have much use for measuring pressure). We weren't visiting her since perhaps 2012, because she told us not to call, not to come. Who knows what that was - one probable story is that Magi thinks we've failed in the US and may now ask to borrow money or something like that. Whatever, we respected that until she called.

She lives at the other end of town, literally the last building down the road, first floor, a neat little apartment. Considering her age, well beyond eighty, she's actually doing better than last time. She may have been on meds then - bensedin is quite popular and any MD prescribes it to older folks just like candy. She kept her husband's name - some guy from the floor above. His son was on the class of which I was the classmaster in 1981, but he never showed up. I think we saw that husband last time. Or maybe once before that, because that last time they were already fighting a nasty divorce.

This time she was completely sane, and spoke coherently - I understood about 80% (she spoke hungarian). Her hair is now quite gray, and the medical problem is mostly her legs, as both broke below knees a couple of years ago. She's walking around the apartment on crutches, and neighbors bring her groceries. The blood pressure was actually fine - her measuring gauge was out of whack and simply lied.

She stays in touch with Magi - not skype, it's probably viber, which is for some reason more popular over here. Outside, I don't even remember anyone ever knowing about it. But Magi also has skype, and later in the evening she thanked us for visiting her mom. Promised to visit us next time she's here. Yeah right, like she did in the previous nine years. France isn't that far, and we've heard she was here at least a week every year.
