26-VIII-1978.

It seems we held another august birthdays, and then this would have been the day - always the first saturday after 23rd.

I've completely lost track which years we did this (most of them) and which we skipped (one or two), and since the negative for this time wasn't preserved, I assumed we skipped this one. But then on 01-III-2021. Magi sent me a picture from 1978... and that's one that I made, and remember it well. The picture, not the night.

So we did have one. But there's no photos and I have no clue - who was there? Probably the same gang as in previous years.

Around this time some family from Poland, whom my parents befriended in Borik, came by and sold their extra equipment, the big tent for one, and probably the gas bottle and a burner, as the old one was ten years old and worn out. They only stayed for lunch and a little rest, as they planned to drive all the way in one go. The wife was a good looking blonde, and their son likewise a good looking teenager.

These polish gas bottles had a different thread, so dad had someone make him an adapter fitting, all brass, on a tractor's rubber tube and our standard fitting on the other end. It paid off - thus he was able to fill that bottle from our regular gas bottle (had those for heating, there was a catalytic gas heater around, and also for burning the bristle off a freshly slaughtered pig). He'd just lay the big 12kg bottle on a chair, the little bottle on the ground, and leave it for half an hour while the gravity does its tricks. The polish fitting was trouble, as not every filling station had a proper nozzle for it - ours did, and eventually those in Zadar got them, but in the first years it was sometimes a problem.
