The female hairdo made by stretching out strands of hair, then combing them backwards to the root while still holding the other end in hand. The end result is a big tall hairball, smoothed and held in place by hairspray. Was popular in the early sixties, along with twist, bikinis and Italian pop music of the time.

Most women wore it badly, some did splendidly. But they all wore it then in 1964.

Accidentally, the same word meant something like „dead broke“ in gambling, at about the same time.
