Had a brief chat with the folks at Firriver about "the word for tomato in Serbian is "paradajz" for it really is the fruit of paradise. As near to taste of nirvana sa one can get. And I still haven't tried the beer, because dad has few more kinds of his brandy that we still haven't tried. And REAL cheese, not the byproducts they sell under such name over there*. Now to get a web connection... the offer seems fine, just to see where did they put the fine print."

The offer was from Telekom Srbija, mostly about getting ADSL with IPTV over your phone line (which dad had, and I have plugged in Lena's gugolj to chat), but I know Stinge is some manager in SBB so I wanted to give these guys a try. I also had a batch of traveler cheques in my pocket to try to cash, because with all the stuff we needed to buy, we'd soon run out of dollars we brought.

So I went off to... DBA. Sale was there, somewhat worn and pale, couldn't guess whether he had his first brandy for breakfast yet or not. . Milka was there, training her replacement as she was already retired. Seems a bit early to retire, she's about my age, but then I remember her back was fucking her. Might be weight related.

He gave me some sound advice about which banks to try, but was generally warning me that the procedure won't be easy, nobody does travelers' cheques anymore.

I dropped by Mika Fišer's club to say hello (and see his jaw drop to the floor when he saw me) - he was busy with some business partners, or just his accountant, so I didn't stay for a drink. SBB was, as he said, just a few doors down around the corner, and the turkey there couldn't tell me if it was in any way possible to have a cable modem without a TV subscription (which isn't much, about 8€ a month, but I don't want to be aiding anyone's TV, specially not the colonial american channels which have multiplied like mushrooms), so I walked to the bank first. Downtown, main square, next to the theatre, actually where the local bank used to be. The procedure was incredible, but I got my first 900$ cashed, and promised to come for more until I got rid of those. Then I went to Telekom's shop and ordered an ADSL connection (then still on this side of the river, in a place where a shoe shop always was), not the fastest one, and at about the same cost as it cost me last month. It was about three times slower, or one year slower, which I didn't mind. I'd be mostly alone on the line, whereas back there we had about four machines sucking that tit. It'll do fine. It should be ready in a couple of days.

* this cheese romance ended in a few years. While not made from pasteurized milk, the cheese has all gone soft. While still sticking to the standard 45% of milk fat in the dry matter, there's less of that dry matter in the cheese now. By 2022, even in a small outfit like Kuč, you could find a smaller wheel of cheese in red (not wax, plastic) which was half soy and coconut oil. Imitations have earned the right to be called cheese. in MS shops, it became normal that you ask for feta and they say yes we have it, and then it turns to be the „vegetable cheese“ (!) only.
