Our favorite meat shop. They mostly hired whoever they could from old kombinat (the meat processing where dad retired from) and still stick to the old recipes or at least keep the quality. We regularly buy bacon there for Lena. They know us already (and report on what good bacon they have as soon as we open the door, (... 7 words...). One of them is Carp's ex, lives somewhere in our neighborhood. The location of the shop is at the corner of the sidestreet where Zmaj is, one corner from Lesnina.
They got other good stuff too.
Around october-november 2019 it seems they are closing the shop. One of the workers (Carp's ex wife) already left. Last time there, when we didn't feel inspired for a regular lunch, we ordered some barbecue (they were also a pečenjara) and then I saw that the shelves are emptier than before, with fewer kinds of items, just laid out in larger amounts and with space in between... The beginning of the end.
Turned out not so. We later heard that they're fine and dandy and that their other shop, on the green market, does brisk business. It's this one where they couldn't keep up with the competition - within 100m left and right there are always at least four others. Matijević and Mrkšić as chains, plus between two and four small solo shops. Their empty space stayed closed for almost three years, and then someone took it, peeled off the foils off the windows and made a neatly put together restaurant, with good view both ways. I not only don't peek inside, I never mean to go through the door, their whole menu is in english.
