There was a screwup when I tried to pay an extra 120$, apart from the regular monthly, against my car loan. Knowing how they calculate the interest (I studied the statement after two months), I understood that I'd save a lot if I paid it faster, so why not. But I made a couple of mistakes - the loan number on their system is a couple of digits longer, probably checksum, which wasn't in the contract; then the address was wrong, I sent the check to their local branch in A-burg instead of HQ in North Carolina. So I wanted to see what happened and got into emails with them, got better instructions. Why weren't these instructions on the contract in the first place? Because nobody, literally nobody pays it faster, they don't even think it's an option. Also, the online banking doesn't even show the loan, so I have to visit their branch periodically and ask for a statement to be printed, so I can follow my own progress and standing.
