banatskaKuća

(Place, tavern, firm, Yugoslavia)

One of those restaurants which are designed to imitate some long gone style which never actually existed. It's a mix of genuine articles (adobe furnace for heating, wooden benches on the outside, proper tradition red-and-white cross-striped tablecloth, old peasant sized brick on the floor, lots of household items - ironic irons, jugs, milk buckets, barrels, even a horse cart) and new fakes (house has an upstairs - unthinkable in this area unless you were a count; the bricks on the floor are ground smooth and polished - well, inside floors were either planks or dirt, bricks were for the outside; irons etc were never a decorative element). We've seen places like this (two more in the city, one in Belgrade and one in Kragujevac - it's a trend; the opposite trend is hipstah places with flat screens, gray surfaces, young tight waitresses, designer food and most of the traditional food and drinks missing from the menu).

We visited this place a lot between 2011 and 2015, mostly when girls were visiting (Ender likes it a lot).
