21-IX-2019.: 6th class reunion at the garden

Dragana and I

Dragana and I

The maturski in Čankovo, sixth time. This time on Mima's expense, she got her son married so she insisted it's all her treat. I think she overpaid handsomely, gave me 10000RSD, though what I could prove by the bills was no more than 6000, plus I was left with about 20 cans of beer, 10l of mineral water and lots of other stuff.

The day went by the usual scenario - I visited Lidl and Roda to get the meat, cheese, peanuts and booze (except brandy, of course, that I had from our own), then a bakery to get the salty pastry, then to Lesnina to pick up Dragana. She was barely up yet, so I went up and waited while she did her makeup ("it's a matter of respect, how you prepare to appear with the folks you meet"). Then we went there, got the bread as per yesterday's order from the shop in nearby village (the owner lives in our street, and the bread is special one, with homemade yeast, from a bakery in a village next beyond Lalinski) and did some of the last minute preparation, namely brought out the two tables and the chairs. I set up the nanovo with the speakers, to show the pics and play the music (with "Crni leptiri" removed, thanks to Jozda). Had a couple of drinks, chatting, while waiting for others to show up.

At some point my cell phone provider sent me the usual message to my nokla about my plan expiring in two days, time to renew. The sound of hens completely confused her, as she knew we had no animals here. I sort of anticipated this, and the timing turned out to be perfect, it came when everything was silent.

Mima and Mjedac showed up first, with whatever stuff she brought (a whole cake, as it turned out). He and I slowly came to the matter of assembling the new round barbecue - bought it this spring in Lidl because the old one was becoming shaky and I didn't want to risk transporting it again, too flimsy. Then came Bajlo, Borko, Čombe, Žuca, Milica, Jasmina, Čarga with his wife, and Vlada, who had car trouble last week. Jozda, of course, came around 18, as he has to play football on this day, no matter that we're doing it a week later than usual. But so it goes - on 1st weekend of september too many people from both classes had weddings, vacations and whatnot; IV4 then took the 2nd so we had to take the 3rd.

Nothing much happenedd, nobody got drunk, not even Mjedac, even though he was seriously drinking, just like last year. Not much of my apricot brandy was gone, as he brought his bottle again.

I took the chance (for which I was waiting for quite a while) to take a long shot, from a tripod (which I brought months ago), of the southern sky. Just to build my own refute of the flat Earth thesis. There was just enough juice left in the eos70 for one good shot, but it worked just right. It shows that the circles that the stars describe on the southern sky are narrowing to the horizon, and that they are concentric, with the apparent center about 22 degrees below the horizon. Which is just what a round Earth has. A flat Earth can't have such a center exactly at south, because south on it depends on where you stand, it's defined as "away from centre". Q.E.D.

BTW, I didn't like the bread. It is made well, but the flour is the standard industrial shit, starch only and soul taken out. They have two other kinds, which we plan to try in some future. Dragana, though, loved it - called a few days later asking if they'd take phone orders. The neighbor was building an extension to his garage, so we saw him every day. Now, however, he ran out of blocks (and probably cash) so the next three months I didn't see him at all. But haven't forgotten I promised to call her once I do.
