Just a thought: software was the thing where you could become big without big initial investment.

Which is exactly why the software development was made so complicated - so the small teams and solo guys can't survive or can't sell unless they sell their asses to someone big, who will then have the money to complete the missing pieces of development, make the app comply with (perceived) market requirements and will, supposedly, make big money on it. The initial team will make some, too, but they aren't the owners of their own ideas anymore. They have probably gone fishing, in disgust.

BTW, tomorrow we have scheduled a trip to Undersville - found a house there that we can buy right away. In a couple of years, when Lena goes to college, we just move to our new fixer upper and rent this. There's only so much of noise and theft one can take.

Don't know whether I saw the emails from Lajna this evening (more likely) or next morning (less, we were packing), but didn't read much. Left that for later - it's a short recap of the last twenty years, when we two were making kids, building houses and swapping countries, while Lajna stayed at home and got deeper and deeper, then got herself out of those drugs (praise to ibogaine therapy) and back into some semblance of useful life.

I had called her this afternoon, after trying twice last saturday but getting to hear only Milka losing her breath climbing the stairs and not finding her inside - walking the dog or just driving around. Talked for half an hour. Sounds the same as she ever was, despite everything.

Around this time, Ender moved in with us. We guess his parents just gave up on him, being ill so often, so the move didn't even merit a comment. They got Nina's orange room, which soon turned out to be quite cramped for the two of them, so within weeks we switched - we'd only sleep upstairs, so we didn't mind. Over time they even got some furniture - a glass board desk, HD monitor, game consoles. Next year there was even a complete set for the Rock Star game, with game guitars, drums and karaoke mike. Eleese also started visiting on her weekends.

He soon became an addict on mother-in-law's gulaš, and started learning serbian by osmosis. And his health improved soon. While he was still prone to fall asleep amid sentence, at least the bouts of being unable to lift his head for three days were gone.
