28-X-2001.

Tina called from a break between sessions at the whilfest; don't know whether she was speaking or attending, but this whole setup was weird. She interviewed me on behalf of this guy in NYC, who is some Foxer but couldn't really know enough to ask the right questions... the interview went fine. After maybe first ten minutes of testing the grounds, we went into discussing finer points, and the examiner - subject relationship turned into two old foxen chatting. Unforgettable.

Nothing came of it, though, I may have passed but he didn't. The guy was a cheapskate. Later I heard he still owed her for yet another interview she did for him. And they say that (((birds))) of a feather stick together.

Meanwhile, I was already negotiating with Berix, and then she was putting a foot in the door for me at eHosp... but it was still too early to know whether this will work out or not. On the other side, I've undertaken to help Paige with a small project, actually with bringing his old stuff over from VFE5 to 5.5, and he's done a lot of modifications on the original classes... so I'm about to design a compare and reapply changes tool now.

This turned out to be rather non-trivial, with a lot of eyeballing the two versions and where things go in each, but then it paid non-trivial (albeit at only 25$ or less an hour - it was 25$ later - well below what I'd charge a year later).

Actually, we already had our first trip to this resort where his app runs, three days ago. Um... the pictures are a bit jumbled there - on 25th Lena was on an ekskurzija with her school, and I went very early in the morning to send her off (the school buses didn't get there so early), it was only dawning when they got into their buses. So the trip to the resort was also on 25th, as per the timestamps in the files (quite confusing, it was all in the same day, I'd never deduce this without the EXIF timestamps inside the pictures). It being not too far from A-burg, I guess this was just me scouting the place - drove there in the afternoon, met Paige, saw the app in action, heard what problems he had, probably got a disk with a copy, came back before the evening. Because in the evening there's another couple of shots I made on the skating ring on the main street.

Someone on sezam (where I'm absent for a whole year) remembers me... Škrba reports:

Just learned that you are a man, a mathematician and a minister. Ouch, both a man and a minister... how do you achieve that, oh mathematician?

(((:

Whenever I see „opredeLenje“* I remember the unsurpassed minister (and his interpretation why odeLenje is also valid), sgr! So, is there any chance that this man, mathematician and minister (of language, for those with cheaper tickets**) returns heAR, so we wouldn't have to igonore (even) moderators' ortographic mistakes? Got to assign a task to the Management to prove that there's no more censorship (even some individuals from the managing structures became so fierce after the Liberation that the users will have to beg them to leash their passion!) and a task to someone to find his mail... And so that... sGradlj, come back!!!

Today we drove to see Jose's new house. Cost him about 70K$, bank loan, of course. It's a standard townhouse, inline with dozen others. Cute feature is that it's valleys, so behind the patio there's a neat slope, no neighbors on that side. It was possibly someone's birthday, I see we were eating a cake and it looks like homemade - did we bring that? Perhaps this was in advance of her birthday.

There's another shopping mall nearby, next exit north, so we went there to see how it's all the same as in the one that we have nearby.

The gas is the cheapest in my memory - I filled her up at 0,89$ per gallon. The demand is halved because there's barely any traffic. We got home really fast, the roads are half deserted, even more so at night.

Financially, we're recovering. There's a check to 1900$ in Paige's pocket, sending it in a day or two, and Ford still owes me 800$ (out of theoretical 5000$ that he spoke of). I see there's something generated for an EONS import on this date, at 16:24, with a bunch of comments like „ Track1 stores "171616" if xport.track2=True“ (yup, the data are designed so stupidly, don't look at me, that's how they arrive to me). The nice thing is that I was able to generate the comments into the generated code, so to make visible the reason why some things were generated and others weren't - well, so and so field is absent from the current import.

On first of november Grant came on UA, about why was the beautifier removed from the rightclick dropdown when editing code, said „it was not context-sensitive, which is typically what one expects selecting this sort of menu item from the shortcut menu. Unlike Comment and Make Uppercase, which only affect the text selected, Beautify reformats the entire document.“. But he promised it'll be back in eight. Okay that... The rest of the thread has, of course, mendered off course, completely unrelated to the topic. As programmers do.

Except one guy who said that he somehow expects, when he sits in a car to drive, that the steering wheel and pedals be always in the same place, because he may get slightly confused...

* the verbs deliti (to share, to divide), plus the prefixed finite ones of the same basis (razdeliti, odeliti etc) have a noun deljenje (division). Someone claimed that „delenje“ doesn't exist, but I created a mock argument whereby that would be also regular, and this guy took it for real...

** „for those with cheaper tickets“ quote is from the Alan Ford comic. Refers to those who weren't even there, or were too far to see, or just don't get it.
