Another email from home - no luck with the squirrel. The guys from UniJewel kept calling about something, emailed and then called on the landline (either Sima or David). She says I really should get a cell phone. Also told me to buy a jacket if it's too cold. Well, Firriver's t-shirt under the shirt gets the job done, most of the time.

We spent lots of time in that tiny room where there are barely seats enough for five people. Jan was mostly busy with Randy Zahn, the prospective young doctor (though he expected his wife to give birth any week now, and that happened naturally, he didn't take work home or vice versa).

In the evening, dinner at Harry's bar on Fillmore. Wow... the history of rock'n'roll is all around me and, well, it's all history. Forty years ago is when it was all happening. Made a few good shots, though, and many more bad ones - first, I turned the autofocus off, then forgot about it. Second, despite all the RnR history, this is just an ordinary american restaurant, nothing special, and even runs sports on the big tv screens, pretty much like any other cheap joint does. Now dunno whether it's actually cheap, David was footing the bills.

My attempts to locate Beatrice have failed. And I wasn't trying too hard - first, didn't know where to call from (no cell, I know), can't use SFBC's phones, they're a customer; calling over hotel line is among more expensive sports. And then I never knew the plan for the day, so I just tagged along and didn't even hear from her.

The weather is still incredible. The temperatures are around 15-16° because of the cold wind from the ocean. Despite the wind, there's heavy fog rolling in at any time, in swaths. If you catch shelter with no wind and there's no fog on top, the sun is blazing hot. I'm managing with my double shirt, while the guys wear a suit or a jacket which would be more fitting for october. They've been here before and they know how it is.

On 3rd, we had another breakfast at Pete's, just across the intersection from SFBC building. This time it was David's turn to get coffee, mine to order the breakfast and Jan's to secure a table (which wasn't a problem, we were early). When it came to my dish (hash browns and scrambled eggs, I think), I mustered all my spanish and said „mas picante“. The guy just smiled and gave it a good squirt of something tabasco-like. Finally real food... not the first time that I have to do this, and at least the mexican stuff isn't exotic here.

Looking at the picture later, I noticed how this fake handwritten shit is like everywhere - it pretends to be chalk on blackboard, but anyone who knows what a font is will recognize that this is not even a scan of anyone's handwriting, this is a designer font. Having two kinds of S is a nice touch, though. I think they use the same one in the vegetable and deli section in Kroger.

This [2007/08/03 22:46:30] is the timestamp of a comment I left in dots.prg - where I was crunching and munching the follicle data for that graphic report (ok, minus three hours, as we're on pacific time here). The trouble is that the code more or less exists for onscreen display of these dots and synchronized display of medication in the grid below it, but now it's a matter of displaying them in crystal reports, which use a completely different logic. And the display grid may not have the same number of days... or let's assume that we do display only the last 28 days. ....
