On 31st David insisted on getting into the second phase of field sales, so that the central only has to print the invoice. That is, with no or almost no validation, it is as it is. Now if it turns they sold something not in stock, then it's a special order, i.e. we'll just write down what the roadster sold, and the staff will manage henceforth. I.e. the primary goal is to responsibilitize (yup, he invented the word on the spot) the staff for the inventory, they should know what they have and these guys should immediately write down what they sold, and in that Access database we'll create a masteritem record, with no history or trail of origin, just to know what was sold. Then it will be negative on stock, but we don't give a fuck. The customer is usually Sam's club, or Gordon or Jaycy Penny... the most important thing is that this special order doesn't get included in batch billing, because the item was paid already. But, I said, we still need an invoice. Ah well no, he said, it's a bit more subtle than that. The special order needs to stay open until delivered, and we need to close it before invoicing. Ah okay, and what price did we get for that Brooklyn bridge? I mean, what we're doing with the database here is con art. And messing with that Access app is like „playing a cello in a phone booth with hands tied behind your back“.

We backandforthed about it for some six hours, with lunch/dinner break. Until his midnight. As I explained to my folks, „it's better not to explain, it's tangled... They have an app they bought, and it does what it does, and what it doesn't, we fudge from outside, poking into its daat. Operation „cuckoo egg“. That app, its author included, has no clue what we're doing.“

Peeked to see how Berix was doing. Living low, eHosp drops her a bit of work here and there, her site is somewhat neglected. My email address is still on her server.

Talk about diamond peddlers went on for more days. All around the dog then to little door*, very hard to fathom what's a must, what a must not, what's a can do, what's a can not. We speak extensively different languages, apart from english, but then when he says „a program“, then I'm specially lost on the meaning - does he mean a teevee channel, a product line, a .prg file, app or something on a washer. Well it seems only the last two were out.

They called from Lena's school, that we should attend some award ceremony on monday, because she won something, didn't say what. Of course, we'll go. And Nina got a letter from her dean('s office), where they specially underline that they've all been students and they know how hard can sciences be, so the more they congratulate her A+ average. That's her annual review, to check whether she still conforms to the terms of the 1000$ grant she got, as mediated by her high school lady advisor.

I'm asking rasejani this:

I'm writing a document (designing a project, ba!) and now I got to the situation where there's no english word which would the bill. It's about scanning the inventory, and... translate this:

„If the expected quantity is one, it is not entered; in the contrary the user enters the quantity or scans each ... of the item once“.

So far, it sounds like this:

"While scanning, the quantity need not be entered when the expected quantity is one – otherwise, the salesperson must either scan each piece of the given item, or enter quantity by hand."

The trouble is, of course, how to translate primerak**.

Specimen - no go, it's a sample, model exemplar, template

Piece - no can do, because if something of multiple parts is scanned (a pair, a dozen), whoever reads this is unclear whether piece refers to each or to the bundle - so ONE pair of earrings may be counted as two

Issue - no good, not even as a „primerak novina“ (a copy of a newspaper) because it also means edition, and also means problem, can't mean „primerak“

Instance - An occurrence of something, A single item of information that is representative of a type - sounds too much like geekspeak, the first meaning may be taken from the phrase „for instance“ than in its dictionary meaning.

Sometimes it seems to me that the latinry was inserted into english just to avoid all the multiple meanings of ordinary (english) words. Well they whitewashed in vain***, the latinry spent so many centuries in bad company, the contagion ate it long ago.

For now I left „occurrence“... but keep in sight that the potential users are cowboys, accent on first syllable, so this expression may be too hard for them. Does anyone have anything smarter?

Zlotvor chimes in, asks „item?“. Nope, can't, taken, it means the SKU. Škrba: „Sample of the item? Sample of sample? ((:“. Nope, sample is the same shit as specimen. I guess „each occurrence of the item“. If they know what a primerak is, they know of a phenomenon. Or I'd say „each item piecemeal“, „each item one-by-one“ (komad-po-komad). Maltez says tat Hinglis is far worse, „here the Hindus for ’komada‘ use ’numbers‘, so tat two komads is ’two numbers‘ - makes one becunt all te way... so just use count. The unit of measure count, abbr. cnt. When something is sold by komad, it says price 2.99/cnt. I.e. they don't have a word for komad.“ (actually they do, in a way, namely a wrong way, because it's „each“ - I saw apples sold at „0,29$/each“... and tried to imagine a shop with a counter, and a customer saying „pack me five eaches of these“).

Somewhere downstream, I had to recount this:

Three firms ago we had an Ozzie of lithuanian origin, and it did take me some time to tune him in, but eventually I came to understand whatever he said.

The bigger problems are the blacks here. The south is already swallowing or dampening the consonants, and the difference between t and d is mostly lost on 2nd syllable and later, but the blacks do that squared. Face to face is almost a go, but over the phone... I simply started faking deafness and asking them to repeat, sometimes four times. Once one such asked me something on a parking, and I had to reply in serbian, so he'd give up on me. I just didn't have the nerves to dive through that maze.

On BBC's news there's a Scotsman - but him I understand all the way. Pronounces consonants without exception.

Stinge: „Well, to mine: Simpo used to make top notch furniture. True, the bad years influenced the quality of their offer, but that's definitely ending now... Ikea lowered its paws on Simpo. Now the production of garbage will be raised to instituion level“. I reply „Ikea is something here - looks five times better than domestic furniture. I don't know about the quality, I avoid furniture on principle :). But then I went into Scan world, a furniture salon here, a danish salon, and just sigher. Yes, a threeseater collapsible couch is 1400$, but also any chair can be put into a gallery. When you look at it, you know you can watch 7-8 movies not moving your butt out of it and still no pain in your back.“

Dad tells how a neighbor took him to a majstor near our community center to fix the axle on his motocultivator (a push tractor, basically) and had it fixed in 2-3 days. Before that, it sat in Đuđa's son-in-law's shop for 51 weeks, untouched.

And we decided on a big matter: we'll buy a house. Because, when you look at it, we piss away 850$ a month on just not being outside with our things in the heat and rain. When you pay the mortgage, at least you are paying to yourself. Alright, a part of it goes to the bank, but I took a good look at how they calculate the interest, and have studied the things to watch for when taking a loan. It's highly profitable to pay it off as soon as possible, except some banks highly appreciate their own effort invested in finding customers (who come to them on their own) and to process the loan (which they charge for, separately, anyway) that they charge a fine if you repay your debt too quickly, and there's a clause in the contract saying so. But, we'll go to our credit union, and there we aren't customers, we're co-investors.

So far we browse the ads, both in the free brochures you can pick in the lobby of Kroger, and those online. We mostly find the same houses on both places, and they're mostly sold already. We started leaving our phone number in to the agents, so if anyone calls...

The new command "SET TABLEPROMPT ON |OFF" will be in fox nine! By popular demand of us on UA. We asked for it so many times, and eventually got it. Previously, when there's a file missing, when the app tries to use it, the user gets a dialog to find the file, without any clue as to which file is sought. With this command on, there's no dialog, but a regular error instead, to which we can react in code.

** primer is example; primerak is an exemplar, but also a copy when printing (newspaper, books), or an unit when many of the same kind are counted
