On 21st there's a pdf file showing the problems with ł, ć, ż and other polish characters in reports, now in Crystal and wordmerges (fox reports were fine). For Word, solved it by exporting the csv files as UTF-8; for Crystal it was a matter of messing with appropriate dlls, which took a few days but Jan eventually solved.
auntie Janja called two days ago, about the 40 day memorial services, and it took me some time to explain to her that there will be none, we aren't organizing anything. She said that uncle Staja will surely call to and try to come - well, I'll tell him the same thing. Well, he didn't, probably talked to each other and gossipped about me. No fucks were given.
However, Jara called yesterday - she wanted to come regardless. She couldn't come to the funeral, can't stand the cold after her accident broke her lowest spine segment (on a beach in Greece).
We had a plan to just visit the cemetery, to see whether the guys have cleaned up the garbage they dug up during the funeral (a bottomless rusty basin, broken glass etc - that's what you get when you're buried near the wall, on the spot which was probably a garbage heap 50 years ago), and then go to Springfield for a pizza. But first, visit the carpenters (Hadron, a guy I know from ppp, three blocks from the cemetery) to see how our garage door and other doors will look. So I gave her my cell phone number and assumed that we'll generally meet somewhere around the cemetery and then take her to lunch.
Of course, she permutated a couple of digits and couldn't get me. Called home but we were out, visiting our carpenter. The doors are progressing fine, all solid wood without knots, will be great. The guy (and his father) is a real Lala, speaking slowly and only when he's got something to say, true to his forum persona.
The grave was cleaned up nicely. We lit one candle-in-a-cup and left another (actually the same one which was lit when dad died). The trouble is that the lid was made in the nineties, by the old stonecutter's shop downtown, founded in 1875 or so, but now it's a different owner (just keeping the name), and the result of shoddy materials he used in late nineties is becoming obvious. This is less than 20 years since it was made, and the corners are already crumbling. But can't engage the stonemasons until I own the place, as there's a new procedure, no works in the cemetery until the owner applies for a permission (from the municipal or city utility for parks, cemeteries and dumps), which is probably free, but they need to check that it's all legal. It seems there were cases when there were who knows what kinds of misdeeds, so now authorization is needed.
At Springfield we didn't take any drinks, just a čorba (rather good) and a pizza (standard good), sitting in the glass cage on the street. Can't wait for good weather to sit up on the terrace above. Got half of it packaged, as we were full. At home, just decided that my blood left the head and went for the more important task of digestion, so I took a nap. Had just about enough when Jara called from downtown. Told her where to wait and went to pick her up.
We sat and talked whole afternoon, mostly about health issues and good food. The loved our tomato juice. Good that we had that half pizza so we had something to feed her. Took her to bus station for the 17:35 Lasta, she had a two-way ticket.
In the evening. scanned more of the old photos. This one is not a scan, though, it's a 3d graph. Played these days with my old sport, programming 3D graphics, this time using fox and Gdi+, just like I did back in 04-X-1988.. This time I went for the old 2-variable function graph, something I did even back on zx spectrum (then in some Pascal, IIRC, and 2d, of course). This Gdi+ and the wrapper code is part of Feds, and we generally don't use it for anything much, perhaps just the graphing of the cycle's course and egg/zygote count, though at some point I did use it heavily in exactly that area, when we wanted to show two cycles at once and compare, but the mechanism to switch between the views was a bit complicated so Jan never included it in Feds.
