Radijator

(Place, tavern, firm, Yugoslavia)

Foundry, initially founded by Tereza's father, then got nationalized but they kept him as director. He went solo after a few years there, and had a little foundry for himself, where he'd just do what he liked. Even had a ship's steering wheel in front of his house, one he poured himself.

Radijator was mostly pouring, well, radiator segments, manhole covers, water pumps. While making that movie in 1971 with DC-99, we also went there and made a few shots. Foundry like foundry, dirty, windy, soot, ashes and sand everywhere.

Ivanka spent all her work years there, as the production line engineer, even earned early retirement because of the work conditions, I think at a rate of 14 or 15 months per year.

The trouble with it was that it was in the city. There was a new plant, out of town, just south of the railway, but this old one somehow refused to die. Along the way they built an elementary school next to it (in which Zeki had a department store later), counting on the plan to tear down the foundry, which didn't materialize. So the school was opened, with the old black foundry in the next yard.

Eventually it was torn down, but it took years - they would periodically reopen and close again for a couple of decades, then the building was abandoned but stood there until about 2017 or 2018.
