11-VI-2020.

Yesterday the two terabyte SSD arrived. Only 27000 RSD (Raja's, last month, about the same, cost 33000). Would have cost much more if it was the latest technology, but I usually opt for last year's top notch. It's cured of kids' diseases and the new model is usually out, so this one is cheaper a lot.

There were no empty SATA slots in zmajček, so I unplugged the DVD burner, haven't used it in years, and when I last tried, it wouldn't eject the tray, stuck. Took me a whole afternoon and next morning to get it right. Cloned the partitions first, but couldn't get grub to make the new main main. Then couldn't make it use the new home partition as /home, because I already had one and was using it. If I booted from a flash drive, So gave up on cloning - the 19.10 Ubuntu was expiring soon anyway, so installed on the new disk. Which was on 2nd SATA cable, and whatever I tried I couldn't get it to write the boot into it, it always wrote it on 1st, even though it isn't bootable anymore... or maybe it is. Then installed Kubuntu, same result. Then read more and discovered that the Canonical, sponsor of Ubuntu, is trying to be the m$ and Apple of the linux world, and insists on some solutions that everybody hates. Since I already had Mint on cimet, installed that next (19.3 aka Tricia). It still didn't seem to work until I gave up and let it boot from 1... where it wrote the grub2 config, which says "offer the option to boot into kubuntu from 1 or mint from 2". Then I noticed that Mint was available on the boot menu, tried it and hey it works.

The remaining piece of trouble came from moving the music, books and movies. The collection was on the 2nd 640G drive in the drawer, which I now see I got twelve years ago. Considering its age, it served well. I didn't like to have it attached at /media/sGradlj/[volume label here], wanted to have them straight under /home or under /u (late Fefi's favorite trick), but no, it kept being owned by root, no matter what I did. Then I tried to move my other disks from /media/sGradlj/diskname mount points to /home/diskname, which worked, but all those were now owned by root. And I could sudo force ownership, which didn't catch, or when it did, it would revert to root on next boot. So I eventually put them back - and each time I had to edit the paths in my bash scripts, the pic folder scanner for fes, and in my playlists. The only bad consequence is that I lost timestamps on the files, now practically all of my music is originating on this day, because while copying files around is a low security danger, changing timestamps on them is highly prohibited to a non-owner. So that dance took a few days.

Then I got into redoing a few things in Byo in Python/Dabo, not too dilligently, but by the end of the month I put some weight on it, and by 1st of july I got it working. It's so much faster, even with using postgres database (compared with the use of local dbfs in fox) and having the whole cursor engine and bizobjects written in itself and not in c++, than what it does using fox under wine. So, that works. I also reshot the pages of the 2nd half of the 2nd tome of my diary, covering 2nd half of 1969, on 21st when I went to mow the grass in the old house, so writing entries for the summer of 1969 took some time too, and I wasn't up to date with the current month. Iron is smithed while it's hot, except when not, then do it later. With the serbian version, in Python/Dabo, I'm up to date until somewhere in 1965. Not too bad, that's about 2% of the volume so far.

But other than that it went swimmingly altogether. Mint is a cleaner version of ubuntu, without the moves by Canonical to become Apple/m$ of the linux world.

In the afternoon we took the van and went to Novi Beograd - Nina had another dental appointment, and the rest of us had fun in the park. Lena was already around there, walking Api. The twins had a lot of fun, and somehow found mud, even though the playground is practically sterilized, with those rubbery boards instead of concrete etc. So some footware had to be washed. We went to Pitch, as usual. Violet broke a glass, accidentally - or we can say she's going through the same thing as her mom did at her age, not knowing exactly until where she is. Elbows being further away than expected, not keeping up to date with body image.

On the way home there was a perfect kitsch sunset, and since she was sitting in the middle row, I had a free seat on my right and kept the eos70 on it. Slowly picked it up, uncapped the lens, and took a shot blindly to the left. All perfectly safe except the moment when she raised her voice - I haven't expected that, so I veered a little - perhaps 10cm - until I realized that she doesn't know that I've done this dozens of times. I always did it when I was alone. Anyway, here it is.
