TotalCmd

(App, Germany)

The true heir of Norton's utilities, but now for Windows. Pretty much everybody used it around here in the late nineties and on. I got infected with it in the early aughts, and after some dozen years of use, finally stopped using it as shareware and actually paid for it (35€ or so). It has just about everything a windows file manager should have, but doesn't.

I kept "installing" it (i.e. just plain copied it) on the customers' servers wherever I had lots to do, namely SFBC, Empyria and a few others. Saved me a lot of time.

The funny thing is that these guys had two security audits one after another (the second coming to find what the first didn't), and they asked us about many stupid things (like why is Foxit installed - because some of our reports produce pdf, and we have a doc-to-pdf converter, and we should be able to check our results) and yet nobody ever found TC on their server. It got copied over to perhaps third server now, and they still haven't found it. Because it wasn't installed, so it's not mentioned in the registry.

Or the cerberi also liked it and kept mum.
