SSOJ

(Place, tavern, firm, Yugoslavia)

The Union of Socialist Youth of Yugoslavia. While not exactly the youth branch of The Party, it was still some kind of political organization, budgeted to keep the youth happy and organized. It was mostly concerned with youth entertainment - keeping rock-n-roll out of private organizers' hands, hosting those and any other cultural activities, organizing local štafeta fr Tito's birthday (aka Youth Day) and mostly being the springboard for wannabe politicians. Along with being an incubator for the next generations of politicians.

This being just an ordinary SOJ, Union of Youth of Yugoslavia, didn't bother anyone, but at some point in the seventies The Party realized they went too loose on the education and upbringing, and that they actually have no good reason to keep pretending that this is an ordinary country like any other. Instead, they decided to insist and point out that we're socialists, and have some bragging rights on the matter. That wave included all kinds - the speech of the director of gimnazija (v. 01-IX-1973.), nudging the rockers to sing of patriotism and revolution a bit (which at least worked), inventing new style and design on the subject (also a success, specially record sleeves and book covers by Mašić), and this renaming of SOJ into SSOJ was so-so, let them not feel forgotten. At least its appearance was also successfully redesigned, looked much better than before. Substance remained intact.

The transition from SOJ into SSOJ happened in november of 1974, which I had to look up. In several places where they are mentioned I wrote it as I remembered it, „dunno whether they were already renamed“.
