Trish (Tricia Deakin)

(Person, USA)

An old fox hand, always paired with her (last) husband, Peter. First saw her on the photos from one of the conventions, which were back then still published on UA, and I wished I was there. Seemed like they had a ball.

Then in 2003 I met them in person at the Fox Essentials in Independence. By then they have already moved to the US. They were still good fun, we (Berix, I and them) even had lunch together once.

Then I attended one of her lectures. Still on the ball, but with a few snide remarks aimed at who knows who - I wasn't in on the interpersonal gossip, but that's already something I didn't quite like. And had a real hag's voice, could strip paint. Then they got into a row with yet another jewish girl on UA over re-posting something on some other fox forum, and it got really ugly really fast. Don't even remember the moves, who said what, but they pretty much surrounded her in two days, she quit the job and they openly threatened that she won't find a job again. Well, she did, and at Orion at that, pretty much filling in my place. The bitter taste remained, and I don't care if it's a jewish internal affair - it was among fox programmers. I just didn't feel like having that kind of dirty laundry among us.

They also had a regular column in some magazine, where they'd show various tips and tricks, how to do this or that in fox. Which is all fine and dandy, I also learned a few things there (and published a couple of articles myself, as the editor was there on that conference and we talked). But when they claimed they invented one particular trick, which I know was invented at least six times before (including by me) and gave it a name and pushed that name everywhere... I kind of lost any sympathy for them.

Eventually, she got into a serious row with Jan, to the point where they were both expelled (him the second time, don't even remember what was it the first time, perhaps he couldn't keep his mouth shut about that obnoxious bible thumper we had around... 2013?). Then she died a few months later and I don't quite know whether he was reinstated. I know he spent at least one year as just guest, at times, IOW read-only, and whenever he needed something, he'd ask me to search for it - no subscription, no search.

One big thing they did write was the ConnEngine.
