Bob brzožder

(Place, tavern, firm, Yugoslavia)

Our favorite brzožder (fastvore, v. house dictionary) since about 2013 and henceforth. We'd drop by often to take a couple of pljeske (our standard topping is urnebes above and below, cabbage and onions) when going to Klincaid, lress often when returning. Previously we mostly dropped by the banjalučki (i.e. 'done by Banja Luka recipe') on the corner of Kara Dušana* and the magistrala, but parking there is screwy so we started avoiding it and preferred to take a burek somewhere instead.

Bob turned out to be the real thing on several issues. For one, location, exactly right spot when going to our garden. For two, large roadside parking, so a minimum of maneuvering. For three, there's seats in the shade, if one wants. For four, it's a truckers' fastmunch, and the truckers are notorious for knowing where the grub is good and where not, it's their sustenance. And, in the end, we tried it many times and were seldom disappointed. The only downside over the years was that we took a large pljeska (250g, medium is 200) for a while, and once we put them both on the scale, the difference wasn't 40 (which would be normal, with 20% loss on roasting), it was just 12. Never took the large one after that, problem solved :).

We ordered various things, mixed [meat] by kilo, or just ćevapčići, or chicken kebab. The latter is a trick, the chicken breast is dry and never was popular, specially not on coals, but with various tricks - applying marinades, wrapping it in a thin slice of bacon, well not too bad now.

The staff knows us already, because during the season we'd often order from Klincaid, to have it ready when we arrive. Or I'd order from home, for supper, while the grandchildren were here, sometimes even five pljeske at a time, several times a month.

* Czar Dušan st, but cz doesn't exist here, it's 'Car'; pretending to suddenly apply classic instead of traditional latin phonetics is a century old running joke, never gets old. Specially in this case, because 'kara' means many things - turkish prefix for black (as in Karađorđe, black George), a dick; also 'karati' as a verb meant chide, berate, but in the slang of the at least three generations it also means to fuck, as a transitive and unpleasant verb. „Kara te kid“ - the kid fucks you uglily.
