Višnja is getting popular, guess who is now giving it a try with her: Čarga. Compared to his joking, I seem too serious. Gavra too - okay, he's a more popular guy overall. He said he really has to see that movie once it's done.

On 2nd we worked a lot in DC-99. That rich kid brought a whiz bang camera with everything automatic. In the afternoon we traveled to see Teja. Her husband is still the "I'm always right even when I'm proven wrong" guy, with opinions on just about everything. The afternoon was generally wasted.

With the trimester approaching everyone is nervous. I see it on Višnja, she's usually in great mood in the morning, clouds up during the day.

Did a lot of work with the current batch of photos on 4th, even Tejka came to help me. She's on very bad terms with her mom, can't have eyes for each other. Well that could explain the blood vessel.

D.M. and Višnja did not come to my place to have some photos made, even though I got the floodlight from the club. Not the first time that they promise then don't come. I took it quite hard this time. Next day they just said "You know, we didn't come." "I know." "Good that you know." "D, I don't wonder about you, it's not your first." "First what?" "Not coming". And that was it. I'm bringing the old regula to school the next day.

Mom says they may be shy about coming to a guy's place. But then why promise to come? Well, never mind now, I'm not inviting them anymore.

At Sonja, Bajče and I play submarines, even though we sit quite afar from each other, using the deafmute alphabet. Spužva is pressing on us and has already screwed up Mjedac. Troskok says Tejka and I are quite active. Ha comma ha.

In the evening, went to see Sneca (with my parents), Veca was on a sleepover at R. Wow, this is the first time I see them apart. And guess what, she was in very good mood. Two miracles in one day.

Saw Veca and R. again the next day. R. is really, ahem, built, and has some special eyes.

On 8th took the good old regula to school and made a bunch of good shots of D.M. and the third girl, Bosa, then that cousin of Zova and Oli Boj and the girls in general (Višnja not there!). And around the class. Walked home with Dragana and Bosa and invited me to come to me eggs (pun intended) in the afternoon, it being an easter, and look at that - they came. Real fun began when they nestled (on the eggs).

Dom is, I hear, open again. Couldn't go, had to make some 168 photo prints, business goes full steam. On 11th I was distributing them (and collecting money, standard fee is twice the price of material). Made more photos the same day (Višnja was here this time).

At trimester, lots of aces. Slavka has six secure ones, she's sure to fall the year. Bajče has two or three, two girls have also a few (ah, Z. is the other one, that's why I can't quite remember her). (in the end, all three girls failed, he passed)

Had a bit of a fight with Tejka - I said photos tomorrow, but you still owe me money for the last time (when she and Slavka visited me for a photo shoot, couple of weeks ago). In the end she paid, saying she doesn't have anyone to leave the money during the PE (which she had, I wasn't the only one off it that day).

Nikola Nešković is running a series ("Serija koje nema" - "Series which is not [there]") on 2nd programme on TV. All acoustics. Interview with Tomaž Domicelj.

- so what are you, engaged singer, protest singer, engaged chanconier, or what?

- I'm Tomaž Domicelj. What I do is what I am, no?

- but what do you prefer to be called, protest singer or something else?

- um, I'm not... it's become a whole prostitution... the protest song.... it's gone ever since the Frenches and Italians started doing it.

The surprise of the evening was "Porodična manufaktura crnog hleba" (Family manufactura of black bread). They lasted perhaps another two years, until the album, but they still have a cult following.

Been to the movies on 13th with Tejka and Duca, "On the buses", the movie version of the sitcom (which was called just "humoristička serija" then). This is when british humour (sp!) started catching on here. Previously nobody would bother trying to translate, but now with a new crop of good translators, they managed to convey many puns. This was a clear departure from the domestic official humor, which was good in its own ways, except that it didn't change much in twenty years, and what we thought that Čkalja was a great comedian was lots of gags stolen from, of all people, Jerry Lewis (I was disgusted when I noticed that, years later - that pizdek!).

We have history on tuesday, wednesday, thursday, so I wash my hair thursday evenings. Dragana knows fridays by just looking at me. Today Bosa also took part in fondling my hair. Found in the news that some guy got kicked out of Savez omladine (Youth league) for kissing with his girl in a public place. Yet some guys steal twenty four billion and get nothing, because they had neat haircuts.

On 14th went to pick Veca and Sneca to go to Dom but they didn't want to go - but met there Vladimira, who thinks I'm special kind of nuts, the contrarian and a liar (!). We talked about just anything that came by, from šund (the kitsch which is sold as mass culture) of the newlycomposed folk music, to Moma Kapor and his "every people gets the television it deserves". Went alone and there I met, guess who, Đica. We stayed together for about an hour and a half, reminiscing and just chatting, with some intimate confessions (about others, though, she was involved with Patak at some point) and then she had to go and we kissed in the end. Rest of the evening I was mostly with Bosa but she left with some other company so I returned alone.

On 16th, sunday, traffic competition for elementary schools, DC-99 in action - me on the 8mm, Skule and Pop on photo, got a lot of tape and it took all day. It was some Ferrania color, which had a nice blue hue, i.e. its blue colors were so nice and alive, the skins were just a tad pale (it's mid april, nobody had enough sun yet) and the greens were so-so. Much better than Kodak which was good on greens but skimpy with reds and blues and the skins always looked a bit orange-waxy. Dimče left me free hands to negotiate for a pass for Dom, as we would need to get in and out frequently, specially about those ambassadorial projections (WTF was that, this is the third time it's mentioned and I never wrote down what was that scheme about). So I'll see with their secretary on monday. We should have tap water in the club soon.

After the shooting dad came to pick me up, some friends (mentioned at Bralići) have come. The guy is a real sack of fleas, full of funny expressions and jokes, pulling from local heritage but quite innovative at times. "See the sky full of stars, and an occasional moon here and there".

On 17th, first spool of the Portrait arrived, and that of the annual assembly of Narodna tehnika. The latter was rather dark, the lights guy (Ž.T.) was not close enough, but Višnja looked just great. Perfect. She wanted to see it but not at my place. Club then. Ok - but she thought, by the picture which came out in the local paper, that we are in political school. But there can't be any projection in the club for a while, it's a mess. Dimče and I were all over town buying things and supplying the majstors, they're digging up the wall, there's dust, furniture is upended... Chaos. Actually they still haven't started working, but should, any day now.

End results of the trimesters: IV5pp is almost as bad as IV4, one third of us have aces. Six absences a day. As the historian predicted.

On 19th, club in the morning (took the editing gadget and splicer), met Dragana, Slavka and Bosa "At the horse", which was the nickname of the little terrace-cafe in front of the library (I completely forgot that such a thing ever existed). Went to Nama (old name for the department store by PRKB) to buy chemicals for the lab, met the two girls from first grade that I was hitting on during the week (would I recognize the other one if she'd stop wearing those green stockings?). In the evening, theatre, before the show walked around with Bosa, then we joined Dragana and Slavka in the lodge. The title of the piece was somehow related to the historian, so every other joke was about him.

On the intermission switched to the lodge where Jasmina sat with that blonde V. (they are from the same village), who was spruced up that evening and looked incredibly sexy. I'm weak on blondes, I know. On the way out, I went with her, and Tejka called me to go with her. Told her to take a vacation... from me. She sent me a poisonous look. This ten seconds distraction was enough for my blonde to enter a clump of other girls, so too late. At the time I didn't know that Dragana, Slavka and Bosa were kicked out at the intermission. So I joined the gang from IV4, stood there with J.B. (cousin of Milica), not noticing that Tejka is standing behind him. She, very icily, told me that J.B. is walking away with her and not with me. Just when I asked who fucks her (means who gives a damn), Miljka came to a rescue and dragged me away to escort her. Of course we went nowhere, this is just when the gang split and I stayed with the other clump. Any showdown between any two was thus avoided, and I'm not quite sure who'd win the majority.

The next day we talked straight. She doesn't know when I accumulated this amount of cynism and ice to send her off so culturedly and coldly. She's not insulted, but doesn't feel right either. This is where we split - at school, same old; outside, friends of a higher order (reference from Njegoš - higher friends are those you can't trust any more). We can largely survive without each other.
